Meet the team

Danielle started her journey with Davies and Jones as the Saturday girl in Talbot Green in 2007, the same year she started her undergraduate optometry degree at Cardiff University. In 2010, she graduated with a First Class Honours degree and then completed her preregistration training here in Davies and Jones in 2011. 

Since then Danielle has continued to further her professional knowledge, and graduated with a distinction in her clinical masters degree. 

Danielle has also gone on to train to provide emergency eye care, including being able to treat a number of eye conditions in practice, and provide low vision assessments. 

Mary has been in optics for 9 years starting as an apprentice.

She qualified as a Dispensing Optician in March 2020 after studying with ABDO and is now a student optometrist as well, studying at UWE in Bristol and hoping to qualify in a couple of years.

Cath started with us at Davies and Jones in 2009 as a receptionist.

She studied at ABDO/Canterbury Christchurch University as a mature student and qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 2013.

She is the manager of our Talbot Green Practice and Frame Director. 

Sonia grew up in Pontypridd and followed in her father’s footsteps studying Optometry at Cardiff University. She graduated with 1st class Honours in Optometry in 1996.

Sonia later worked with her dad at their two practices in the Rhondda Valley until he retired in 1999. She then continued as a single-handed optometrist running 2 practices. After 23 years she has joined Davies & Jones to be part of a similar minded team.

Sonia enjoys walking, travelling extensively in the UK and abroad with her husband and does regular Zumba dance classes. 

Owain is a graduate of City University in London. He has specialty qualifications in therapeutic prescribing and is one of only a handful of optometrists in Wales with the College of Optometrists diploma in glaucoma having worked since 2009 in a specialist glaucoma clinic in the hospital eye service. He has recently become only the second qualified optometrist in Wales performing laser treatments for glaucoma and after cataract surgery having been seconded to University Hospital Wales.

Amongst his interests are myopia control having performed orthokeratology having learned the technique in Hong Kong in 2007.

He runs our shared care services and eye casualty service

Owain is active in teaching,  being a staff member previously in Cardiff University and now Health Education Improvement Wales.

 

Andrew graduated from Aston university in 1985 and has been with Davies and Jones for over 35 years.

He has been part of the company's Low Vision Service since 2003.

He has a particular interest in using the latest spectacle lens technology to help manage myopia 

Catrin graduated from the University of Bradford in 2017. She holds a Professional Certificate in Glaucoma and is an Independent Prescribing Optometrist.

Catrin enjoys all areas of optometry and has a particular interest in myopia management. 

Ian Jones graduated from Aston University in 1983 and returned to work in the Welsh Valleys, qualifying in 1984. He spent ten years in Merthyr Tydfil and the Cynon Valley before joining LDJ and DE Davies in 1997. In 2003 he became a Partner when the business became Davies and Jones Optometrists.

He has chaired the South East Wales Regional Optometric Committee, the Welsh Optometric Committee for Welsh Government and was a Board Member and Director of Optometry Wales and the Local Optical Committee Support Unit in London. He has interests in specialist contact lens fitting for keratoconus. He was a founding staff member of the Welsh Optometrist Postgraduate Education Centre in Cardiff University.

He enjoys anything that involves a bike and a hill as he will certainly tell you if he gets a chance!
